EU-Project HANGING AROUND/HeimatQuartier by artscenico on tour

Performances, premiers and exhibitions
„HANGING AROUND/ HeimatQuartier“ in Italy, the Czech Republic and Romania.

The first presentation was in MODENA (Italy) in April/May 2008, presenting a photo exhibition with motives of hanging around and two performances . In Modena, known for Pavarotti, Maserati and Balsamico, artscenico presented the musical performance premiere of Frank Niehusmann and Tom Zahner’s “Major Tom” and the solo-dance piece “La Panchina” by Rieke Steierl from Dortmund. Together with the culture office of Modena the photo exhibition showed motives from Italy and the Ruhr area. The Italian photos were selected after a call for photographers, initiated by the Italian partner.
From September 18th 2008, artscenico presents the project in the Romanian city of CLUJ. Together with our partner, the theatre-faculty of the Bolyai University (http://www.ubbcluj.ro/ge/ ) an exhibition has been created and presented in the Casa Matei, an old building in the antic part of the city. There were mixed motives from all across the world and photos from Romanian photographer Rafael Oros who visited Dortmund in 2007 for 3 months, also to take photos in the Ruhr area. Dortmund photographer Lisa Ajtay who was born in Cluj, was creating the exhibition. On the studio-stage of the faculty, Frank Niehusmann and Tom Zahner showed their „Major Tom“ and Rieke Steierl presented the solo-dance piece „La Panchina“ on Sept. 20th. in 2008.
Our Czech partners from PRAG, Mamapapa, developped a project with young people about hanging around. A result oft hat workshop was to be seen within the festival „Čtyři dny“ between October 3rd and 10th 2008 (http://www.ctyridny.cz/pages-main/aktualne-en.htm ). The artscenico contribution in Prague is the new dance piece „La Panchina III“, choreographed by Rieke Steierl for three dancers (Rieke Steierl, Conny Kepper und Noriko Melchior).

This performance aims to be a visual and social reinterpretation of the
gothic novel “THE TELL-TALE HEART” by the famous Edgar Allan Poe, how’s
brilliant and grotesque vision cast a bright light into modern day society’s
madness and paranoia. It also pretends to be an ode to the last century’s
expressionism.

August 2008 - world street theatre in Schwerte. 2000 people saw the 6 performacnes of “La Panchina III”. A small exhibition in a new gallery “Zwischenraum” with photos from the Ruhr area and Italy was well visited between Aug. 28th and Sept 6th.

At the Dortmund theatre night 1500 poeple saw the premiere of “La Panchina III” in a big park.
